
Maria Sangiorgi is a Healer Woman whose skills as a multidimensional artist, Dance Movement Therapist and a Functional Analysis Psychosomatic Psychotherapist inform her unique approaches to healing.
Since the mid 90s Maria has brought somatic movement, Alexander Technique, Body Mind Centering, Ideokinesis, Feldenkrais, Yoga, Authentic Movement and Continuum, into her life, practice and work. Maria came to Dance Movement Therapy training from her background in Egyptian dance. Maria’s work evolved beyond bellydancer into what she calls Dancing Isis, Dance Journeys for the Awakening Heart, Sacred Somatic Dance and Embodied Bellydance®. She was part of a movement research group that met for 3 hours weekly for 6 years.
As a dancer, Maria performed extensively around the folk festival circuit of Australia with the middle eastern music and dance group Yalla. As well as teaching bellydance for many years, she also facilitated a number of community group dances, bringing a wide range of people together to express a theme both in public spaces and in theatres.
Maria lives in Australia and teaches in Italy and Japan and co-facilitates Sacred Dancer retreats in Bali.
She has a private practice in Hampton seeing individuals, groups, couples including those with Special needs. She offers a safe space that promotes healing long held and unresolved trauma, addictions, anxiety etc. and helps couples to move away from damaging adaptive behaviours towards respect, care, compassion, kindness and clarity.
She has worked for many years with populations with physical and intellectual disabilities. elderly with dementia and Alzheimer’s and marginalised folk.
With Ermanno Bergami Maria is running the first Functional Analysis Psychosomatic Psychotherapy training in Australia. She trained in this modality in Italy and is a graduate of the International Dance Therapy Institute of Australia.
She also offers personalised day retreats for indivusudals or groups.
Her dance journeys are rituals and retreats for the awakening heart.
